So I’m genuinely interested in doing mental health policy for my online deliberation project. I’m incredibly invested in this subject for multiple reasons. This stuff will actually be pretty relevant for me in my future. I feel it can be a topic that a lot of people will try to voice an opinion about because it’s really relevant in the media after Sandy Hook. It seems like we get the “We need to improve gun control” side of this incident as well as the “No, we need to improve mental health.” The two are going to be interrelated if I participate in this discussion.
As for the site that I’m planning on using, I’m having trouble finding forums online that are solely dedicated to mental health policy. There’s a forum I actually visit from time to time that is for psychology undergrad/grad students to talk about admissions processes, or just anything psych related. I feel like this would be a place where I could possibly try to bring up the topic of mental health reform. I haven’t really seen any topics brought up specifically for that. There are also articles in the NY Times and CNN about this issue. I could definitely participate in discussion in the comments sections.
I’m not really sure which site would be the best place to participate in this discussion. Or how successful it will be. I don’t know, I guess I’m still just unsure about how this whole assignment is supposed to go down, so I’ll be sure to ask some questions about it tomorrow in class.
