Mid-semester Blog Progress

I’d venture to say I’m enjoying blogs so far. Perhaps it’s just a busy course load that makes me sometimes overwhelmed with having to find something interesting to say in my blogs, so perhaps the added pressure can sometimes affect whether I give them a positive or negative attribution.

For my passion blog this semester I feel I go all over the place. Psychology is SO BROAD it’s really difficult for me to find what people want to here. Topics in clinical psych that I find insanely interesting may not be interesting to others for a variety of reasons, so I try to incorporate a lot of different social psych topics into my posts because they are more relevant. However, compared to last semester, I feel people were a bit more interested in my dance passion blog because it was different. I could articulate my passion for dance more accurately last semester through videos, but this semester it’s a lot more difficult because I don’t have that medium. So, in essence, I don’t think I’m reaching out to as broad of an audience as I would like. I need to work on this.

With regard to Civic Issues, I would say I somewhat enjoy this blog. It’s longer, which can be challenging if you are struggling to meet length, but it’s more in depth and really helps you to think critically about these issues we talk about. I wasn’t really sure where I wanted to go with this blog in the beginning, so I had a “general” post my first week. But since writing this week’s post I feel I’m delving more into the issue. It’s an interesting and pretty rewarding experience. My last blog seems to have sparked some good conversation, so I’m excited to see what this week will do. It’s a little hard to speak about my CI blogging from just one post though. I’m interested to see how it develops over the semester, and I’m hoping that all my posts relate to/run into each other by the end.

As far as commenting goes, I feel that I find myself agreeing with a lot of people, particularly when I comment later than others. We all hold a lot of similar ideas and a lot of blog comments seem to show that, but I’m trying to offer something different to add to the discussion. Sometimes I find myself struggling with something new to say, and therefore I feel my comment is unproductive if I’m just basically reiterating what people have previously said. But I definitely like commenting on CI blogs because it gives a different viewpoint on different issues I may not necessarily look up on my own.

Everything has gone pretty well so far, I think, and my goal for the end of the semester is to fix the issues I’ve talked about in this post.
